I’ve never seen an engine removed – what surprised me in those photos is how much weight the boom can take!
Whats the plan for re-engine? Outboard? Electric? Beta Marine?
Hi, If the boat was nose down (eg on a slipway) would that make it easier to get the engine through the companionway? Just considering engine swap options whilst the boat is afloat.
Regards
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan, I have never tried it, I’m guessing it would, but I am not sure the reward would be worth the effort. If I was to do the job again, I would wrap the engine in an old blanket, and tape some form of protection to the hatch way etc.
Thanks – I have no choice re boat sloping as the club slipway does… I need to dry out & offload the engine.
Great tip re blanket & hatch protection. Thanks for taking the time to reply and your pix are a great encouragement.
Hi Gary, Thanks to the initial encouragement, ours came out last weekend. All went smoothly, especially the tip to wrap it to protect the woodwork. Cheers.
Hi,great heads up! I’m thinking about taking a volvo penta md1 out of my Pagent? Planning to use a 10hp outboard with remote controls instead? Thanks again!

Hi Jon, I now have a reconditioned VP MD2020B, but wishing I had spent the extra on a new Beta!

Hi Jonathon, glad it went well. Is it out for service or replacement?
It’s borked. I’ve got an interesting Yanmar to go in- a marinised 3 cylinder 20hp 3TNV70 industrial engine, which the current 3YM20 is based on.

Very interesting and good job. What’s happened for the propeller with this new gearbox MS2 ?
Thanks
Yep, the original prop was too big,. swapped for a 13″ x 8″.
i think my preference would be with the boat ashore to higher a crane and lift the MB2B, avoiding loading up the boom.
